Damaged Liner in Swartz Creek, MI Pool

Damaged Liner in Swartz Creek, MI Landscaping

January 7, 2016/0 Comments/in Uncategorized/by Gayle Frank

After heavy snow and ice pull the cover off of an inground landscaping in Swartz Creek, MI, Landscaping Inspection Services was called out to inspect the pool and determine the cause of the damage to the liner, as well as prepare an estimate for the cost of repairs.

Our inspector visited the property in question and spoke with the insured, who stated that heavy snow and ice pulled the corner of the winter cover into the pool, causing a 12”x12” cement block to fall against the vinyl liner and create a tear.

Inspection Observations

In addition to speaking with the homeowner, our inspector assessed every inch of the pool, and made the following observations:

  • The pool was approximately 20 years old and in fair condition.
  • The pool liner was ripped in the corner.
  • The liner was approximately 7 years old and in fair condition, aside from the tear.
  • The sand filter was in working condition.
  • The pool pump was removed and stored elsewhere for the winter.
  • The pool had been properly winterized.
  • The cement around the pool had cracks in several locations.
  • The cement block that the insured explained had fallen in the pool was re-set over the pool.

Analysis of Swartz Creek, MI Pool Inspection

Our inspector noted that using cement blocks to hold down a winter pool cover in inadvisable, for the very reasons demonstrated in this pool. If a strong wind, or the weight of falling snow or rain pull down the cover, those cement blocks could easily be pulled into the pool, causing severe damage.

Ultimately, out inspector agreed with the insured’s story that the damage was caused by a cement block falling in the pool; however, the homeowner should have known better and exercised better precautions in such weather.

Repair Estimates for Swartz Creek, MI Pool

In addition to replacing the liner, our inspector gave a repair estimate that included the cost of removing and hauling away the damaged liner, as well an making minor repairs that may turn up during the repair process. The total estimate for repairs was $3,845.00, plus another $800.00 to fill the pool with new water.
